Amritsar Advisory: Amid soaring tensions between India and Pakistan, residents of Punjab’s Amritsar district woke up on Friday to a disturbing discovery, metal debris scattered across three villages, believed to be remnants of missiles launched by Pakistan during the late-night hours, as per PTI. The incident has prompted a series of advisories from the district administration, urging residents to stay indoors and keep lights switched off as a precaution.
The District Revenue and Police Office (DRPO) of Amritsar issued an advisory stating:
Advisory 1: Citizens to stay indoors.
Advisory 2: Keep lights turned off.
Advisory 3: Citizens asked not to panic.
"Stay vigilant, but don't panic," the DRPO’s message read.
Metal fragments were discovered in Jethuwal, Makhan Windi, and Pandher villages. While police have confirmed the recovery of the objects, they said that their origin can only be determined after a proper investigation. No damage to property has been reported, though locals described the experience as frightening.
Residents Share Experience
A resident of Jethuwal shared, "We came out of our homes after hearing loud sounds at around 1.05 am. Following the sound, the ground felt like it was shaking as in during an earthquake." Residents also reported hearing explosions and spotting lights flashing across the sky past midnight.
The local police responded swiftly, cordoning off the areas where the debris was found and informing Army officials for further examination.
The situation in Amritsar unfolded after the Ministry of Defence confirmed that India had successfully foiled Pakistan’s attempt to strike 15 locations across northern and western India with missiles and drones on Wednesday night. These included Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai and Bhuj. The Pakistani attacks were neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Grid and Air Defence systems.

Blackout Drill in Amritsar
As a part of heightened precautionary measures, the Amritsar district administration carried out a blackout drill at around 1.30 am on Thursday, the second such drill in three hours. The first drill occurred between 10.30 pm and 11 pm on Wednesday. Residents were urged to switch off lights and remain indoors during these exercises, which are part of broader efforts to boost civil preparedness.
Meanwhile, the Amritsar airport has been shut since Wednesday evening and remains closed until further notice. Border areas in Punjab remain on high alert as security agencies continue to monitor developments along the Line of Control and international border.
Across India, several districts also conducted mock drills following India's missile strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan, including key targets such as the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base in Muridke.
