Union Public Service Commission, UPSC is India's premier central recruiting agency for Group A officers of Government of India. UPSC does recruitments for union government civil services, defence services, engineering services, health science, natural resources, architecture, law and many more,


The commission is mandated by the Indian Constitution for appointments to the services of the Union and All India Services. UPSC is also required to be consulted by the Government in matters relating to the appointment, transfer, promotion and disciplinary matters. The union commission is amongst the few institutions which function with autonomy as well as freedom.


UPSC was initially established on October 1, 1926 as a Public Service Commission. Later with the coming of the Government of India Act of 1935, the commission was renamed to Federal Public Service Commission. After India's Independence, the commission was renamed as Union Public Service Commission.


The Chairman and other members of Union Public Service Commission, UPSC are appointed by the President of India. UPSC is the primary body responsible for conducting examinations for appointments to the services of the Union. UPSC conducts various recruitment exams throughout the country like the UPSC NDA, NA Exam, UPSC CDS Exam, UPSC IES Exam, UPSC CSE Exam and more.


The most popular exam conducted by the Commission is the UPSC Civil Services Exam or UPSC CSE. Every year lakhs of students appear for the civil services exams. Through CSE, UPSC recruits candidates for the Indian Administrative Services, Indian Police Services, Indian Foreign Services, Indian Revenue Services and more.
