Patel was signed by CSK earlier this week after replacing Vansh Bedi as an injury replacement. The 26-year-old was drafted into the playing XI immediately and took Shaik Rasheed's spot. He made a strong impression with a knock on 31 in just 11 balls which included one boundary and four sixes at a stunning strike-rate of 281.81

Patel's knock in CSK's thrilling two-wicket victory is the fastest by a player on debut in the IPL debut and the first instance of a debutant in the league playing 10 or more balls in an innings at a scoring rate above 260. He broke the record for the highest strike-rate on debut in the IPL, which was set by Vipraj Nigam earlier this season.

It is worth noting that Luke Wright made a knock of 34 runs in 10 balls in his debut innings at a strike-rate of 340 on his first IPL innings for Pune Warriors against King XI in 2013 at Mohali. However, it was not his debut in the IPL, which came in the 2012 season against Delhi Daredevils, but he did not get a chance to bat in that match.
Patel has also set the record for the second runs after facing 10 balls in the IPL (31 runs) behind Wright (34). Shashank Singh and Abhishek Sharma scored 30 runs each, while Vipraj and Carlos Brathwaite made 29 runs in 10 balls.
Patel also has the second-best career strike rate (172.15) in T20 cricket among players with more than 1000 runs behind Faizal Khan (173.02)
Patel is also India's joint-fastest (second quickest in the world) T20 centurion, having scored a 28-ball ton in the 2024 Syed Musthaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) for Gujarat against Tripura.
